Producer-director Suneel Darshan is gearing up for the release of his film, Andaaz 2. Meanwhile, the trend of re-release is going on in full swing. Hence, is he considering the re-release of the first part, Andaaz (2003), starring Akshay Kumar, Lara Dutta and Priyanka Chopra, or any other of his films? Suneel Darshan spoke about it in an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama.
He replied, “The exhibition sector is in control of the big boys. So, they can decide. I am more than happy to offer them my film for re-release. Having said that, there are territories like UP, Punjab and Bihar where they keep releasing my films like Jaanwar (1999), Andaaz, Inteqam (1988), Lootere (1993), Ajay (1996) etc. Jaanwar doesn’t stop re-releasing by the grace of God. I hope it never stops!”
This writer shared with him how Jaanwar had a successful run in Mumbai’s Alankar cinema and later also had a matinee show in Minerva for several weeks. On this, he remarked, “Jaanwar’s trending was very strange. It didn’t work as well at Metro Cinema, Mumbai as it did in areas like Bhiwandi, Kurla etc. Reportedly, it ran for 25 weeks in Bhiwandi, which was unbelievable.”
"Suneel Darshan continued, “Jaanwar ended up being slotted in such theatres. At that time, Akshay Kumar had delivered so many flops that the elite audience had written him off. His comeback happened gradually with Hera Pheri (2000) followed by Dhadkan (2000). By the time Andaaz (2003) released, he was firmly back in the game.'"
Suneel Darshan revealed that his next film with Akshay Kumar after Jaanwar, Ek Rishtaa: The Bond Of Love (2001), had a phenomenal run overseas. He shared, “For Ek Rishtaa, families would come to theatres in large numbers. I remember standing outside cinema halls in London where the film was playing. Big cars would pull up, and groups of 9-10 people would step out and buy tickets for the movie!”
