Bollywood actor Ayushmann Khurrana has always been open about his journey to fame and the lessons he's learned along the way. In a candid conversation on the Honestly Saying Podcast, the actor opened up about how sudden success after his debut film Vicky Donor led to a shift in his priorities, especially in his personal life. Khurrana, who is married to childhood sweetheart Tahira Kashyap, recalled the challenges he faced when his career took off.
Fame Took a Toll on Personal Life Ayushmann Khurrana reflected on how his rise to fame changed his outlook on life. He shared, “I started very young when I took part in Pop Stars and Roadies. Coming from a middle-class background, when you become a public figure, you just think you need to give your 100% to your profession. Your personal life takes a backseat. But striking a balance is very important for family and relationships. I understood this very early on. I lost my mind after my first film.”
His breakout role in Vicky Donor not only earned him critical acclaim but also turned him into a household name almost overnight. The actor admitted that the sudden fame led to a loss of focus, putting a strain on his personal life. Tahira Kashyap: The Anchor in Ayushmann's Life Despite the challenges fame presented, Ayushmann Khurrana is quick to credit his wife, Tahira Kashyap, for keeping him grounded. Reflecting on their journey together, Ayushmann said, “My wife was my girlfriend when I was in Pop Star. People used to wonder what she saw in me. I have evolved over time.” The Importance of Choosing the Right Partner In the interview, Ayushmann also spoke about the role of a life partner in shaping one's destiny. He emphasized, “The most important decision of your life is choosing your partner. The right partner can take you to heights, while the wrong one can destroy everything for you. Your life revolves around this."
For Ayushmann, his journey from growing up in a patriarchal environment to becoming a feminist was deeply influenced by Tahira. He shared, “I have had a long journey from growing up in a patriarchal environment to now becoming a feminist. This could be possible because of my partner.” A Relationship Based on Friendship and Mutual Respect As for the secret to their strong bond, Ayushmann attributes it to the foundation of friendship. He said, “We don’t believe in materialism. We were in the theatre together. She used to write plays for us and I used to act in them. In the end, it all comes down to friendship. If the two of you love spending time together, it means you are sorted.”
Ayushmann and Tahira married in 2008 and are proud parents of two children.
