ZEE5 recently launched its latest film, Berlin. This intense espionage drama, directed by Atul Sabharwal, features a stellar cast that includes Aparshakti Khurana, Ishwak Singh, Rahul Bose, Anupriya Goenka, and Kabir Bedi. Released on September 13, Berlin showed the turbulent political landscape of 1990s New Delhi. Set against a backdrop of intrigue and danger, Berlin plunges audiences into a narrative where trust becomes a rare commodity and every decision carries weighty consequences.
In a candid discussion with Bollywood Hungama about the film’s conclusion, Aparshakti Khurana shared his thoughts on the potential alternate endings. “Of course, I would’ve loved to see Sondhi facing justice and Pushkin and Ashok emerging victorious, but that would’ve been a cliché resolution,” he remarked.
Instead, he emphasized the unique emotional journey of Pushkin and Ashok, who form a deep connection without ever crossing paths outside the investigation room. Their bond, developed amid high stakes and tension, illustrates a profound understanding of when to engage and when to hold back. “They became a team, but the stakes were too high for things to go as planned,” he added, highlighting the film’s depth and complexity.
Aparshakti also reflected on his approach to choosing roles after working on Berlin. He mentioned, “Not really! My process has always been the same since I started working at 20 years old. My approach to taking up work, dealing with people, and managing personal and professional aspects has always been in sync with my nature and character in real life.”
In the frigid winter of 1993 New Delhi, Berlin unfolds as a tense espionage thriller when authorities arrest a deaf-mute young man ([Ishwak Singh] on suspicion of being a foreign spy. The case takes a complex turn as a skilled sign language expert [Aparshakti Khurana] is brought in to interpret, only to find himself drawn into a web of intrigue. With accusations of aiding a notorious spy [Anupriya Gonenka], the truth becomes elusive, and an intelligence officer [Rahul Bose] races against time to uncover it. But as rival agencies and unseen forces conspire, a startling revelation turns the case upside down: could the real spy be someone hiding in plain sight?
Berlin captivated audiences at several international film festivals, such as MAMI, Stars Asian International Film Festival in Los Angeles and Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. ALSO READ: EXCLUSIVE: Aparshakti Khurana, Rahul Bose, and Anupriya Goenka discuss entourage costs
