June 7, 2002 was a very unusual day for Bollywood. Two biopics, based on the revolutionaries Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru, released on the same day in the form of The Legend Of Bhagat Singh and 23rd March 1931 Shaheed. The former, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, starred Ajay Devgn, Sushant Singh and D Santosh while the other one was helmed by Guddu Dhanoa, Rahul Dev, Vicky Ahuja and Sunny Deol.
Unfortunately, both the films didn’t work at the box office. Yash Raj Films’ Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai, which also released on the same day, turned out to be successful. Out of the two Bhagat Singh films, The Legend Of Bhagat Singh received more appreciation. On the film’s 22nd anniversary, here’s looking back at its 5 most impactful scenes.
Bhagat Singh's Courtroom Speech
One of the most iconic scenes in the film is Bhagat Singh's powerful courtroom speech. Facing the British judge, Bhagat Singh fearlessly declares his intentions and ideologies, asserting his commitment to the cause of freedom and his willingness to sacrifice his life for it.
The Assembly Bombing
The scene where Bhagat Singh and his associates throw bombs in the Central Legislative Assembly is a pivotal moment in the film. It showcases their boldness and determination to challenge British authority and ignite the flames of revolution.
