His journey kicked off from TV in a big way with series like Hip Hip Hurray and he still loves it as a medium. But Rushad Rana has of late been experimenting with the OTT medium too. While he will be seen in the much talked about Bobby Deol starrer web show Aashram, he is also a part of the Amazon Prime anthology movie Modern Love Mumbai. With the constant comparison between OTT and movies, the Anupamaa actor speaks about what’s the difference between and what prompted him to take up the role in the Esha Gupta starrer Aashram 3.
Viewers would remember him as Anirudh from Anupamaa. In the Star show, he played the role of Kavya, aka Madalsa Sharma’s onscreen ex-husband. And in Aashram 3, he is seen as a big devotee of Baba Nirala. Speaking about his character in the web show, Rushad said, “I play a character called Vipul Dahiya in Aashram 3, who is a big time construction contractor. He and his wife are big devotees of baba. And my character is so inclined towards the baba that until very long I'm not able to figure out that the Baba has actually done wrong things.”
Adding how he bagged the role, Rushad explained, “I got a call from the casting team to audition for this part and I happened to be in Darjeeling for another shoot and it being my first day of that shoot I ignored the audition at first. But they were really keen for my audition so I finished my day's work and sent them the audition video. The casting team reverted positively just with a time of few days.”
While Rushad has been featuring in many popular shows since the 90s, even as teenage acting star, web is a new form of content that has gained momentum, especially after the lockdown. Speaking about the difference between television and web he added, “I do think web gives you a little more liberty to perform as an actor because now a days a lot of new scripts are being experimented, but I also feel it is important that your character is well written regardless of the medium for you to perform well.
Not just Aashram 3, but Rushad is also seen in the anthology Modern Love Mumbai which streams on Amazon Prime. Expressing his happiness over the projects that he has been bagging, Rushad added, “I am really happy about the way web projects are coming my way, the parts that I was getting had great visibility and even now, my parts in Aashram 3 and Modern Love Mumbai have got huge response from my friends, family and fans.”
